Dear EDC Community,
We are reaching out to you today with difficult news.
The STLHE Board has suspended the elected Chair of the EDC, Carolyn Hoessler, until April 15th, 2021. Carolyn is seeking to overturn this decision, and the case is currently being litigated. The first court appearance took place on January 19th. The legal case is unlikely to be resolved prior to the April 15th suspension end date. This unprecedented situation creates a great deal of ambiguity and raises several critical questions for the EDC community.
The EDC Executive is deeply disappointed and troubled, but we remain committed to advancing the values, priorities, and work of the EDC Community.
- The EDC Conference will take place on February 17th and 18th. We look forward to gathering in community, and the conference remains an important opportunity for EDC community members to reflect, connect, and care for ourselves.
- In addition to the scheduled AGM, February 18th, from 12:00-12:45pm (Central Standard Time), during the conference, we will hold an additional meeting between March 1st to 8th for our EDC Community to come together and dialogue more deeply together.
- Centre leaders’ meetings will continue as scheduled.
- The EDC Community process of decolonizing, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive educational practices is in its initial stages and updates regarding community consultations will be forthcoming.
We acknowledge that there is much to process and to discuss both in terms of immediate next steps and our future directions as an EDC. We value our EDC community, and we continue to be reachable by email at firstname.lastname@example.org and the community via the listserv.
